I don’t know what it was about Halloween this year, but by the morning of November 1, I was completely over it and ready for Thanksgiving. I guess that is good because, of course, Halloween was over by November 1. What was bad about it, however, was that I have had no enthusiasm to blog about our Halloween, and…well…that lack of blogging enthusiasm is weird for me. But enough is enough…I need to blog about Halloween so that I can start blogging about other things.
The Monday before Halloween, we carved our pumpkin. This is a yearly tradition, and the responsibility for it falls squarely on Greg, as I cannot be trusted to create art with a knife. And really, we would probably not carve pumpkins at all were it not for Luke’s relentless hounding the moment he gets wind that it is Fall.

He had drawn this pattern of a ghost that Greg was supposed to carve. It was not very complicated, but Greg basically knows how to do triangles and snaggle-toothed mouths. Neither of us really knew how to carve the shape of a ghost and then its face without messing up the whole pumpkin.
While Greg and Luke tried to figure it out, here is what Anna was doing:

Rolling down the hill. Yeah, she could not have cared less about pumpkin carving. Her leafy joy soon attracted Luke.

She did eventually stop and observe the artist at work:

I have no idea why she was making that face, but it cracks me up.
This is what her hair looked like:

And…this is the finished project:

Ummm…not exactly the most complex design, but hey, we were going off a six-year-old’s blueprints. What can you do?
Then on Wednesday evening, we met up with our friends, the Gaithers, at their house. The plan was to walk to a little neighborhood nearby that goes all out for Halloween. They even have a parade.

Our trick-or-treaters. Luke ended up going as Batman, which went well with Anna’s Batgirl. Ellie was Rapunzel. Brown was the guy from The Lorax movie. It was an understated costume, but he pulled it off:).

The girls.

Mark pulling the wagon.

The parade.
I love this photo series:

Ellie’s like, “Why is this chick rubbing a leaf on my face?” Well, Ellie, that’s what you get from being friends with a tactile/kinesthetic type!
The neighborhood was idyllic, and the weather was perfectly autumnal. It was a great trick-or-treating spot!

We had a great time with the Gaithers, and a fun time trick-or-treating. Now, however, we are in full Thanksgiving mode around here!
